Paul McCartney officially confirmed the dates and venues for his 2017 Australian tour last night in a Facebook Live chat and the music icon spoke in length about a number of other topics, including working with Kanye West.

Speaking on the artists he has worked with throughout his illustrious career with Aussie comic Tim Minchin, The Beatles legend pin-pointed his 2015 collaboration with West, FourFiveSeconds, and his initial reluctance.

"In Kanye's case, I just got a phone call from my manager who said, 'Kanye West would like to work with you'…I was a little bit nervous at first because I thought it could go horribly wrong," McCartney recalled.

"But I was intrigued to see what he was up to and to see how he did it really. And it was a very intriguing process."

McCartney went on to explain West's unique creative process, which resulted in a track that he didn't know at the time would include pop singer, Rihanna.

"It was great doing it though because I don't work like that, I normally sit down with a guitar… I would just talk to [West] about something and it would just give him an idea for a song and when we finished, we wrote for about two-three days just in the afternoon and didn't tell anyone, because I said 'If this doesn't work, let's just pretend we never got around to it’. So I was waiting three months after we finished… this arrives, and it's a Rihanna song and I said 'This is great'.

"But I have to ring up and say 'Am I on this?' and [West] goes 'Oh yeah, you're the guitar player.'"

McCartney also confirmed in the over-30 minute chat that the long-running rumour he once referred to Crowded House frontman, Neil Finn, as the world's greatest songwriter is false.

After being teased by Minchin that he doesn't even like Finn's music, McCartney joked back, "I didn't say that. I don't, but I didn't say that… I love his songs actually."

The 75-year-old went on to talk about recording the iconic Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band album, being asked to write musicals with John Lennon and much more.
