The Preatures have announced their return with the release of Girlhood, the first single from their forthcoming second album, due out later this year.

Recorded and produced by guitarist Jack Moffitt at the Doldrums studio in their hometown of Sydney, the new track sets the tone for the highly-anticipated follow-up to the band's 2014 debut LP, Blue Planet Eyes, as it deals with modern womanhood.

Singer Izzi Manfredi described Girlhood as "a very self-aware song".

"I can only speak of my own experiences, I'm not trying to speak for other women," Manfredi said.

"This song is about exploring the contradictions of my own identity."

Give the track a spin below.

Meanwhile, The Preatures have announced today that they'll be performing a very special show at the Sydney Opera House for this year's VIVID Live, where they'll debut some of the new material from the upcoming record.
