There have been numerous attempts the past month to dethrone Ed Sheeran’s latest album from top place on the ARIA Charts, and Northlane’s efforts this week with their new surprise LP, Mesmer, has scored them a top three debut.
After claiming #1 in 2015 with Node, the Sydney metalcore favourites landed behind Sheeran’s ÷ (Divide) and Lee Kernaghan’s #2 debut The 25th Anniversary Album.

A sonically diverse top 10 also sees debuts from James Blunt (The Afterlove at #7) and Steel Panther (Lower The Bar at #10).
Post-rock connoisseurs sleepmakesaves – who are currently touring the country – land #15 with Made Of Breath Only, while Melburnian indie rocker Ali Barter debuts at #17 with her first album, A Suitable Girl.
Other debuts on the ARIA Albums Chart come from Aussie hardcore legends Mindsnare with Unholy Rush (#33) alongside Trey Songz' Tremaine The Album (#24), Take That's Wonderland (#28), Dixie Chicks' The Classic Albums Collection (#25) and Mark Seymour & The Undertow's Roll Back The Stone 1985-2016 (#55).
Over on the Singles Chart, Sheeran holds onto #1 with Shape Of You with new music from Zayn, David Guetta and Kendrick Lamar appearing.
Northlane will join us in the studio for The Music Podcast next week.
