Veteran British pop singer-songwriter Alison Moyet has announced an upcoming tour of the antipodes in October this year, making the journey in the wake of her impending ninth studio album, Other.
The studio release is due to land on Friday 16 June via Cooking Vinyl and tackles a diversity of topics across its 10-song track list, explored through the distinguished, thoughtful lens of Moyet's broad experiences.
"For me, making a record at this age, lyrically, is a different proposition," she explained of the writing process for the album. "Observation in most cases replaces emotion. The invisibility of middle-aged woman rather thrills me and instead I watch.
"Subject matter covers what you might expect from a pop album: dyslexia, locked-out syndrome, diversity, Persephone, doggedness and the internet," she continued. "Always asked what a song is about, I attempted to cooperate, but in truth though the lyrics incorporated my best attempt to describe what I see and of the meaning that is mine. I want, who chooses to, to find their own landscape, or indeed none. Some of us have always felt 'Other'. I no longer wish it were otherwise."
Just a few months later, Moyet — who first grabbed widespread attention as one-half of 1980s synth-pop duo Yazoo before going on to pursue a fruitful career as a solo artist — will make the trip to Australia (and New Zealand) for her local run of shows, getting under way at Perth's Riverside Theatre on Wednesday 4 October and hitting Adelaide, Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane before heading across the ditch.
Telstra customers will get first run at tickets through a 48-hour Telstra Thanks exclusive pre-sale, running from 9am this Wednesday, 22 March until the same time Friday or until the allocation is exhausted.
General-public tickets will go on sale from 10am this Friday, 24 March.
