Experienced photographer and frequent The Music contributor Dave Kan is starting 2017 with a solo exhibition of his work all this month at Fortitude Valley's Beach Burrito, in his home base of Brisbane.

Kan is the latest creative to get the nod from the restaurant's Creative Creatures program, a series that previously featured fellow The Music photographer Markus Ravik in August last year.

Kan has caught several stunning moments in his work for The Music and several other channels, including his own business pursuits and recent festival and gig jobs for triple j, the freshest of which was his effort at Byron Bay's just-clocked Falls Music & Arts Festival over the new year.

He also previously put together a simply sublime, The Music-exclusive gallery of portraits for some of Bluesfest 2016's drawcards including Sahara Beck, Vintage Trouble, Graham Nash, Noel Gallagher and more, and his oeuvre continues to grow and impress with pretty much every new candid, chaotic or posed snap he captures with his trusty camera(s).

According to a Q&A on the exhibition's Facebook event page with event coordinator Alex Saba, of Lusid Art, Kan draws inspiration from "as many different people as possible", being a man who admits to being "pretty terrible with names" and having "an exceptionally short attention span".

Although he's built a envy-worthy body of work over his still-young career, Kan says that his idea of the "ultimate" gig changes with regularity — and doesn't even necessarily fall within the narrow confines of live music photography: "I think my answer to this would change every year or two!" he told Saba. "I’m always wanting to explore another part of the world.

"Getting paid to tag along and document research expeditions would be a blast. It’s not exactly realistic, but then dreams aren’t supposed to be realistic!"
