Acclaimed Aussie singer-songwriter Taasha Coates has just released her debut solo full-length, Taasha Coates & Her Melancholy Sweethearts, and she's itching to hit the road to celebrate the new release on a wide-ranging national tour.
Best known for her work as one half of multiple ARIA-winning folk-rock duo The Audreys, Coates has been keeping busy since that band went on temporary hiatus at the start of the year, hitting the studio with fellow lauded troubadour and producer Shane Nicholson to lay down the Americana-tinged tracks that would make up her first effort out on her lonesome.
"I'm really proud of these songs," Coates said in a statement. "They're raw and real and very personal, and they were a lot of fun to record and have been great to play live. I think maybe for the first time in my life I feel like an actual songwriter."
Coates' impending Aussie tour, proudly presented by The Music, will come fresh in the wake of a stint abroad in the US, where she'll spend time this September in Austin — as one of three Adelaide songwriters selected for a residency to work on unfinished material by Al Brumley — and Nashville, where she'll ply her wares at Americanafest.
Upon her return, she'll perform for home-turf fans in Adelaide, at The Jade, on 21 October, before setting off on a sojourn that takes her to venues in Canberra, Bulli, Sydney, Newcastle, Perth, Bunbury, Fremantle, Melbourne and, finally, Brisbane, where she plays the last show of the tour at The Milk Factory on 19 November.
