Stalwart Sydney rockers The Rumjacks are releasing their keenly awaited third studio full-length, Sleepin' Rough, today and, to commemorate the work's arrival, the five-piece are hitting the road for an absolutely massive national tour from October through February.
With 35 shows in the pipeline, the band have clearly taken great pains to ensure they're taking the road less travelled to take their heartfelt new record to far-flung stages in every corner of the country. Although that number of shows sounds exhausting, The Rumjacks are currently in the middle of a 90-date European and UK tour, so they're well and truly seasoned at the art of bringing the goods night after night during long stretches on the go.
The sojourn gets under way on Friday 14 October at Sutherland's Studio Six, with additional shows that month including performances in Katoomba, Port Macquarie, Mayfield, Canberra, Belgrave, Frankston, Traralgon and Melbourne. November's significantly quieter for the band — they only play Parramatta and Penrith during those weeks — which at least gives them a little time to rest up before the next, rather packed, leg. That includes five dates in December (Darwin, Adelaide, Warrnambool, Ballarat and Bendigo) as well as a busy start to 2017; January finds them hitting Wollongong, Ulladulla, Bateman's Bay, Hobart, Launceston, Devonport, Perth, Fremantle, Margaret River and Bunbury, while February takes them to Toowoomba, the Sunshine Coast, Brisbane, Currumbin, Geelong, Melbourne (again), Woy Woy, Newcastle and, at long last, back home to Sydney, where the mammoth run ends up at The Factory Theatre on Saturday 18 February.
Alongside well-established Rumjacks favourites, there'll be plenty on offer from the run's namesake album, which we premiered yesterday and follows last year's effort Sober & Godless and was recorded at Bomba Studios, in regional Victoria, with production by Steve James (Cold Chisel, The Jam, Thin Lizzy). It's available as of today via ABC Music.
Tickets for The Rumjacks' Sleepin' Rough tour, proudly presented by The Music, go on sale from this coming Monday, 8 August, via the band's website.
