Ticket sales for the Birdsville Big Red Bash, the world's most remote music festival, have reached an all time high, with organisers today announcing the event has sold out over three months in advance.
Over 6,000 people are expected to travel a combined 20 million km to make their way out to the Simpson Desert in July – doubling the numbers for last year's event, and providing a welcome $5m boost to outback tourism spending.
"This year's event is going to be bigger and better than ever, delivering a great few days of iconic Aussie rock music for everyone who attends. It's awesome to see tickets selling so fast and we look forward to seeing everyone out in Birdsville very soon!" said Greg Donovan founder and organiser of the Bash.
Minister for Tourism and Major Events Kate Jones said the event's unique combination of an iconic Queensland destination and an incredible line-up was a major drawcard for visitors.
"It's great that more than 6,000 visitors will travel from across the country to Birdsville's iconic ‘Big Red' sand dune," Ms Jones said.
"Many of those attending are making their first trip to the Outback, which is fantastic for the region and tourism operators.
"Events like the Big Red Bash help attract more visitors to Queensland destinations, creating jobs and supporting local businesses."
There is still an allocation of tickets available for purchase as part of the event's travel package options – and these are expected to sell quickly. The Rock 'n' Roll Road Trip includes a return coach trip between Brisbane and Birdsville, an adult ticket to the event, tent camping and showers at Birdsville.
As the event falls in the July school holidays, the Bash has caught the attention of families this year. Around 1,000 kids are expected to attend the Bash and plenty will be surfing the Big Red sand dune on boogie boards, pieces of cardboard and anything else they can find!
The Birdsville Big Red Bash, now in its fourth year, has an exciting line up of artists for 2016, including Jimmy Barnes, who will return for his second year at the Bash, alongside headliner Paul Kelly. There will also be performances from Troy Cassar-Daly, Adam Brand and the Outlaws, The Angels, Christine Anu, Russell Morris, Adam Harvey, Shane Howard and Col Finley.
