Celebrate Australia day with John Butler Trio in Hobart

John Butler Trio, The Waifs and San Cisco, together for a special Australia Day concert event at Hobart’s St David’s Park.

Three of Australia’s most captivating live bands, John Butler Trio, The Waifs and San Cisco will come together exclusively for their Tasmanian fans to deliver a unique concert event at the beautiful and iconic St David’s Park in central Hobart. This special concert will take place on Tuesday January 26th (Australia Day public holiday).

The Lord Mayor of Hobart, Ald Sue Hickey said,

“St David’s Park is a City icon loved by locals and tourists alike for its history and character and is a wonderful setting for a concert. This will be the first time St David’s Park will host a major music event and with acts of the caliber proposed, is sure to be popular.”

Each band, all from the Western Australia, holds a deep mutual respect for one another and are thrilled to come together for the first time to perform on the same stage for their loyal Tasmanian fans.

The John Butler Trio has spent 2015 doing exactly what they do best, touring their socks off introducing their current album ‘Flesh + Blood’ to fans around the world. They continue to carve out bigger audiences globally as they perform through a combination of headline shows and festivals including Bonnaroo and Lollapalooza to name a few. In Australia, JBT is playing outdoor shows at Taronga and Melbourne zoos. Both sold out in record time”

With their superb 7th studio album ‘Beautiful You’ receiving rave reviews, The Waifs are without doubt one of Australia's favourite folk bands. ‘Beautiful You’ has been nominated for 3 ARIA Awards this year including Best Blues and Roots Album. The emotionally raw but musically buoyant album demonstrates the easy chemistry that has bound The Waifs, as well as celebrating the depth of song writing talent they have at their disposal.

San Cisco are the darlings of the indie pop youth culture. Their live show belies their young age with so many recognisable and popular songs like Awkward, Fred Astaire and Too Much Time Together getting people jumping to their feet. They have been touring the world with their 2nd critically acclaimed album Gracetown throughout 2015, and now thrilled to be coming back to Hobart.

The show will be opened by the very talented Christopher Coleman who won the Telstar Road To Discovery

The Council has previously worked with Mr Touber in the presentation of the Gone South concert and one of the State’s largest popular music events, the AC/DC Concert at the TCA Ground. As a Council, we are keen to provide a support and facilitation role working with external providers, particularly experienced operators with a strong record of delivering high-quality events in Hobart,” said the Lord Mayor.

Chairman of the Council’s Parks and Recreation Committee, Alderman Anna Reynolds said: “The decision to support this event is based on council’s vision maximise Hobart’s sense of place and activate public spaces and Council parks. With music being the key focus, we believe The Australia Day Concert l fits well with this vision and is an activity that will add vibrancy to the City.”

Charles Touber, the local concert organizer, said “ We couldn’t have staged this major event with these incredible artists without the assistance and generosity of the Hobart City Council”

Expect nothing short of an incredible experience in central Hobart as these three artists deliver a most memorable concert event starting at1.30pm and continuing until 8pm in the stunning surrounds of St David’s Park.

The concert will be people friendly with punters encouraged to bring their own food hampers. And blankets. High quality food vans will also cater for those in need of a feed! No BYO. No high back chairs.
