Weâve already covered off WAMâs Most Popular Act nominees this week, and setting out sights on the Most Popular New Act names, itâs clear every level and genre of the WA music scene is oozing with talent.
A quick look at what the past year has entailed for the below seven nominees, and it seems theyâll be moving onto big things in the near future.
The winner will be crowned next Thursday, November 5, at the WAM Awards, and you can vote on who should be named Most Popular New Act as well as other Public Voted categories right here.
Catlips
Rhythmic house/experimental pop act Catlips, or known to her friends by Katie Campbell, kicked off the year by launching new EP Casual, but itâs name is no refection of Campbellâs approach to music, touring Australia numerous times and dominating local line-ups.

Elk Road
Youâre probably heard Elk Road on triple j in recent months, with single Not To Worry added to high rotation. The man behind the moniker, Rory Garton-Smith, left his mark on BIGSOUND shortly after the singleâs September release and is scheduled to perform at Southbound next year. Garton-Smith is definitely on the road to success.
Grrl Pal
Electro synth pop at its finest is what GRRL PAL deliver, crafting dreamy landscapes with their bedroom beats, and they won triple jâs approval and a slot at Listen Out Perth this year through Unearthed. Theyâve also supported The Jungle Giants, San Cisco, Asta and released their debut EP, Paradise, this year.

Jacob Diamond
Itâs been a big year for solo-troubadour turned full-band leader, with Jacob Diamond already winning the Big Splash band competition. Mr Diamond has found the perfect blend of folk, psych and pop, and will also be playing the awards ceremony, which might have added pressure if he claims this category.
Koi Child
The seven-piece hip-hop outfit came out of nowhere and definitely have people talking, including the likes of Perthâs own Tame Impala and Pond â Nicholas Allbrook even makes a cameo in their latest film clip, which is nominated for Best Music Video.
Mosquito Coast
DIY garage-pop two-piece Mosquito Coast were thrust into the spotlight this year when they claimed first place in triple jâs Unearthed High competition. Listening to the tunes that got them into the competition, itâs hard to believe theyâre still in high school. Theyâre currently recording new material through studio time obtained through the competition.
Troye Sivan
International superstar Troye Sivan is conquering the world at only 20 years of age. Heâs set up follow-up EP Wild, which charted around the globe, with his debut album, Blue Neighbourhood, set for a December 4 release.
