FESTIVAL
The first Elsewhere event held in March 2015 certainly set the bar for live music experiences in Newcastle and the Hunter. With a line--up of outstanding performers set against the breathtaking backdrop of the Newcastle coastline on a brilliant Autumn day, the inaugural Elsewhere event left many punters asking for more…
Now, the wait is finally over. Elsewhere: The Lock--Up is set to bring music to the big house. Heading to Maitland Gaol on Saturday 10th October, the second Elsewhere promises to be even bigger than the last.
Doing time on the Elsewhere stage will be award--winning indie--folk favorite, Josh Pyke. On the cusp of releasing his fifth studio album, But For All These Shrinking Hearts at the end of this month, fans will be able to enjoy some all new Pyke material, as well as his much loved earlier work from Memories & Dust, Chimney's Afire, and more.
The Basics are also bound for a night in the slammer, known for their powerful live shows and musically adventurous spirit. The Basics are the collaborative brainchild of Wally De Backer (a.k.a. Gotye), Kris Schroeder, and Tim Heath, who seamlessly blend the lines between energetic rock and good--time pop.
Thelma Plum will be breaking out of solitary confinement, ready to steal hearts as she delivers her exquisite and emotionally--charged set. Hayden Calnin is set to join the lineup, nabbed for his unique vocals, progressive folk sound, and honest lyrical storytelling.
Also on lock--down are local folk favourites, The Soorleys, who recently hit the stage at this year's Groovin The Moo, and De'May, the sultry songstress known for her husky vocals wrapped up in gritty blues--rock.
The Elsewhere ethos is as much about creating an awesome atmosphere as it as about the great live music on stage. At Elsewhere: The Lock--Up, inmates... er, we mean, patrons, will once again be able to enjoy a boutique bar offering from Six String Brewing Co. To avoid any lazy bar--lines, the Elsewhere team have added an Express Can Bar for the sprightly event--goer who likes to keep on the move!
Stake out a table for your posse in The Mess Hall, which will be serving up a delicious spread from the afternoon til late (BYO food tray for the authentic jailhouse experience).
Inmates are encouraged to hitch a ride on one of the prison buses travelling to and from the Gaol, seats can be booked when purchasing event tickets.
Spend some time in 'Her Majesty's Hotel' and serve your sentence alongside some of Australia's finest musicians at Elsewhere: The Lock--Up, Saturday 10th October at the historic Maitland Gaol. Gates open from 3:30PM. Tickets on sale Monday 27th July 2015, available through Oztix.
