$1 from every ticket sold will be donated to SURF LIFE SAVING NSW who are the official beneficiary of the event.
BONDI BEACH is one of the world's most famous beaches and THE BEACH BOYS are one of the world's most famous bands. Typifying 'The Sounds of Summer', it's a perfect match to have them performing on the beach at Bondi, which is viewed as the quintessential Australian beach, to launch the inaugural BONDI BEACHFEST!
Major Sally Betts from The Waverley Council has come on board in support of the event for the local community saying: 'Waverley Council is proud to support Beachfest...it reflects our wonderful beach culture, and is a great way to herald the Summer holidays...surf safety is a priority with Waverley, and we're very pleased to see Beachfest helping raise much needed funds for our lifesavers.'
With Surf Life Saving NSW being the official beneficiaries of Beachfest , Phil Vanney, CEO of SLS NSW has this to say: 'Surf Life Saving NSW is delighted to be the official beneficiary of the inaugural Beachfest at Bondi Beach. Beachfest is a fantastic opportunity to showcase the surf lifesaving movement and increase awareness of what we are all about and that's saving lives, creating great Australians and building better communities. Surf Life Saving NSW relies heavily on the generosity and support from the community to continue to provide the vital service of keeping our beaches safe and ensuring that NSW beaches are patrolled by well trained and equipped Surf Life Saving volunteers. Thanks to Beachfest for thinking of Surf Life Saving NSW to be the official event beneficiary.'
Along with live performances from the bands all day there will also be a Surf Lifesaving Parade by the Bondi Life Savers which will include a March Past, Beach Flag event and Board Race/Demonstrations. There will also be a Miss Beachfest Competition, Surfing and Skating Exhibitions plus market and food stalls on location for the duration of the event.
One of the most influential and enduring bands in pop history, THE BEACH BOYS are the Sounds of Summer with album sales of over 100 million, 32 American Platinum and Gold awards, an induction into the Rock n' Roll Hall of Fame and a Lifetime Achievement Grammy award. Captained by Mike Love, THE BEACH BOYS music defines youth and fun fun fun, evoking places where life is renewed through sun drenched days in the surf and glorious nights in the sand.
Their catalogue spans five decades and has produced a swell of more than 50 timeless hits including California Girls, Good Vibrations, Surfin' USA, Sloop John B, God Only Knows, Sail On Sailor, Kokomo, Surfer Girl, Help Me Rhonda, Barbara Ann, Wouldn't It Be Nice, Surfin' Safari, I Can Hear Music, The Warmth of the Sun, Little Deuce Coupe, I Get Around, Heroes and Villains plus so much more.
THE BEACH BOYS are creators of lush singles described as 'teenage symphonies to God.' The band produced songs with an ultra-smooth blend of guitars and vocal harmonies, creating a signature California pop sound that is as recognizable as any band in rock history.
THE BEACH BOYS will head line the inaugural Bondi Beachfest with support from the following Australian Artists:
The Whitlams are one of Australia's favourite bands whose appeal reaches audiences of all ages and tastes. With lyrics described as having a 'charming cynicism' and enhanced by an instinct for poignant melody, they have become a staple of the local music scene. Recently, The Whitlam's album Eternal Nightcap was voted in at #17 JJJ's Hottest Albums of all time & their song No Aphrodisiac was voted in at #58. The band has three ARIA Awards including the award for Best Group.
Busby Marou, originally from Rockhampton, will entertain the crown with their melodic guitar riffs and meaningful lyrics - mandolins, ukulele and whistles, stories of travels across the globe, and the pull of home. Tom Busby and Jeremy Marou have a gift when it comes to Australian story telling. The Australian newspaper describes them perfectly - 'The overwhelming feeling that emanates from Busby Marou is joy. The voices and close harmonies are as clear as Queensland sunshine, and the acoustic guitar playing of both men is both accomplished and expressive'.
Also fitting onto the bill nicely is KIM CHURCHILL, who has already accomplished impressive feats in his short time as a professional musician. He is the name on everyone's sultry lips and with good reason. KIM CHURCHILL, the surfy dude from New South Wales, is four albums deep and hundreds of shows down and has truly found his signature sound with his latest release Silence / Win. With fingertip calluses as coarse as thimbles and those signature vocals as crisp as an autumn dawn, these unmistakable talents roll together with expert composition and lyrical wisdom to form one tantalising combination.
Call it the restlessness of youth, but Brisbane artist SAHARA BECK refuses to sit still and will be on the stage for Beachfest, accompanied with just her guitar. Over the past year she has released a critically acclaimed EP, toured and played shows non-stop, had her music featured online and on television, collaborated with numerous artists, written countless new songs and released another EP - BLOOM. She's a rising star and one to watch!
