Jimmy Barnes, Jon Stevens & Diesel to rock the outback at the third annual Birdsville Big Red Bash

"Coming out to Birdsville is a special thing, but coming out with Jon and Diesel makes it even more fun. It's a place that I've never been to before - and I've been to most places in Australia. So really looking forward to getting there - we're going to rock and everybody on the bill are friends, so look out we don't know what's going to happen. See you at The Bash!" - Jimmy Barnes

Australia's rock icon, Jimmy Barnes will headline the third annual Birdsville Big Red Bash, an iconic outback two-day desert music festival on July 5th and 6th, staged at the famous Big Red sand dune on the edge of the Simpson Desert outside Birdsville in Queensland.

Accompanying Barnes on the bill are fellow rock legends, Jon Stevens and Diesel, along with country music trio, The McClymonts and Aussie larrikins of music and stage Frankie J Holden and Wilbur Wilde, who will rev up the crowd with light-hearted banter and captivating musical performances. Victoria Edwards will return for her second Big Red Bash, while Heels on Wheels and Mick Lindsay will join the journey to the outback.

The 40m high Big Red sand dune will provide a breathtaking backdrop to the artists performing on stage and is often described as the most spectacular outdoor concert venue in Australia.

The McClymonts will be venturing to Big Red for the very first time and they are excited to be performing at the once-in-a-lifetime concert, saying that they can't wait to rock the desert.

'Birdsville is one of those iconic Australian locations that you hear so much about and we are excited to finally get the chance to visit there. You can't get any better than playing in the outback with the red dunes as our backdrop. To everyone making the huge road trip, and to all of the people flying in, we can't wait to rock the stage and party hard with you at this year's Big Red Bash!' the sisters said.

Frankie J Holden said, 'Every Australian should experience 'red dirt' country at least once in their lives and the Birdsville Big Red Bash is a perfect opportunity to do just that. I'm looking forward to the Bash tremendously: the music (of course), but also the journey, the destination and the camaraderie.'

The Birdsville Big Red Bash last year hosted James Reyne, Daryl Braithwaite, Kasey Chambers and John Williamson to name a few.

After experiencing Big Red first-hand, Kasey said, 'To stand on stage and have that massive sand dune behind you and all these beautiful people out the front... It's pretty special.'

The popularity of the line-up and location saw crowds double the previous year at the unique setting, where light projections showcasing the giant red dune compete with the stars on stage and the dazzling starry night skies to amaze the audiences.

In 2015, organisers will extend the 'Vivid-style' light and sound show projected for a whole night onto Big Red as a bonus for early-arrivals on Saturday, July 4th. Wilbur Wilde will MC the evening of entertainment, while the sounds of Australia's rock top 40 blast out across the desert campsite. Free camping and facilities are provided for the duration of the festival and travel options are recommended in the General Info section.

Jimmy Barnes has had a celebrated 40 year career in the Australian music industry as the frontman of Cold Chisel and a as successful solo artist. He has released 14 studio albums over the past 30 years, with nine of those albums reaching number one - more than any other Australian artist.

Birdsville is one of Australia's most iconic outback towns, perched on the edge of the vast Simpson and Sturt Stony deserts and the famous Channel Country. Despite its isolation and wild foreboding country, it has been named Queensland's friendliest town and its famous pub is noted for true outback hospitality.
