TIM MINCHIN was the second act to be announced as part of the inaugural week-ong 'On the Steps' series of outdoor concerts, presented by the Opera House and Live Nation as part of the 2014-15 Summer at the House line-up.
In classic rock star fashion, Minchin will be performing with an unspecified number of musicians and rocking songs from his past three sold out tours, plus a few bits and pieces you might not have heard.
'On The Steps' will be Minchin's first live shows in Australia since 2012 when he performed his sold-out TIM MINCHIN vs The Orchestras – Round II national tour and played Sydney's Homebake Festival.
Aside from touring, Minchin has famously collaborated with the Royal Shakespeare Company (RSC), writing the music and lyrics for Matilda The Musical. This adaptation of the Roald Dahl classic has been playing to packed houses and great critical acclaim at the Cambridge Theatre in London's West End since October 2011, winning a stack of awards including a world record breaking seven Laurence Olivier awards. Matilda opened in Broadway's Shubert Theatre, April 2013, and has since broken box office records and won four 2013 Tony Awards having received an astounding twelve nominations. It will open here in Australia at the Sydney Lyric Theatre in July 2015.
In 2012 Minchin was offered and filmed the major recurring role of “coked-up rockstar” Atticus Fetch in the sixth season of Showtime's hit US TV comedy drama, Californication. He also toured with the first ever UK arena tour of Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber's legendary rock classic Jesus Christ Superstar, cast in his dream role of Judas Iscariot. He reprised his role in this acclaimed production in Australia and the UK in 2013, also the year Minchin made his Sydney Theatre Company debut, performing with Toby Schmitz, in Tom Stoppard's Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead.
Currently living in LA, Minchin is working on Larrikins, a DreamWorks animated feature set in the Australian Outback, due for release in 2018. As well as composing, writing lyrics, and directing the piece, he is also voicing a narcissistic rock star Cane Toad called Andrew.
