Dinner in the Sky
Tasmania is quite literally on the way up.
On the eve of The Taste opening, Dinner in the Sky Tasmania together with a select group of business and produce brands will provide dining adventurers with a completely unique way to see the Hobart waterfront and watch the yachts sail in.
Two passionate Tasmanians Trinity and Jack Pfeiffer saw the fascination by the public, when they chose to 'drop' in to their wedding day on a platform suspended from a crane. 'We started thinking about how we could give others the experience and noticed a similar experience had already been created by Dinner in the Sky in Belgium' said Trin Pfeiffer, co-licensee of the sole Australian license. 'We contacted the founders in Europe and after gaining all the necessary approvals we're about to bring a global phenomenon to Tasmania, and we think we've got the best views in the world'.
Technical engineer, safety manager and Trin's husband Jack Pfeiffer has been working with Hobart City Council to make this possible in what is a tight location. 'We'll be using a 220tonne all terrain crane to lift the table 50m in to the air. That's above the height of the Hydro Tasmania building.' On the ground will be a clear roof VIP marquee to start the celebration prior to being harnessed in to the reclining dining seats and smoothly elevated to the sky. The launch event will include 9 separate 'elevations' in a range of themes including Whisky Tastings in the Sky: one with Bill Lark and another with Casey Overeem, Tassal Salmon Dinner in the Sky with Ben Milbourne, Cheese and wine tastings including the new Pirie vintage and the chance to have oysters shucked before your eyes with Mark Burnell who was the chosen oyster provider in Tourism Australia's Invite the World to Dinner event at MONA.
'The experience will appear at major sporting events in 2015, fully branded and tailored to corporate sponsors, but we wanted the first event to feature Tasmanian brands and have the chance to share their stories with the world,' says Trin 'it really is an exclusive celebration of the talent, produce, stories and businesses synonymous with Tasmania and international media will be watching this launch closely.'
So that just leaves one question, can you take your phones up to get photos? 'Yes for sure, we provide a concierge on ground for valuables, but the views are too good and it's such a once in a lifetime type of thing that we're more than happy to let phones go up. We always recommend holding them above the table itself, not off the side. It's a long way down.'
