The Big Gig
Aussie rockers unite for the Copper Coast's first Big Gig!
The Copper Coast will come alive this October Long Weekend with the region's first ever outdoor pop music festival, The Big Gig.

The headline list of classic Australian 70s and 80s musos and alternative 1990s rockers, are expected to attract a broad audience from Adelaide, the Mid and Upper North and Yorke Peninsula.

Ian Moss from Cold Chisel fame, Mark Seymour from Hunters and Collectors, Ross Wilson from Daddy Cool and popular 2000s band Eskimo Joe will draw an estimated 5000 music lovers to the Kadina Oval on Sunday October 5 from 3.00pm to 11.00pm

"Regions such as Clare, the Barossa and McLaren Vale have attracted a number of major outdoor concerts in past years - particularly the A Day on the Green series," organising committee chairman Richard Fuller said.

"Locals have felt for some time that the northern Yorke Peninsula deserved its own open air public concert so a group was formed to research the opportunity to run our own event.

"We decided that the October Long Weekend is a time when there are lots of visitors to the area looking for something to do.

"We have contracted an event management company with big concert experience and we are delighted to have signed such a talented list for our first Big Gig.

"We want it to be something for all ages - teenagers, young families, mums and dads and grandparents.

"The venue will provide a secure, well organised facility so that everyone can enjoy a safe, fun day out and local catering groups will offer a range of regional produce and beverages for sale."

Copper Coast Council spokesman Greg O’Connor, Director of Community Services, said the region had become a popular destination for short stay tourism, holiday accommodation and "sea change" property development in recent years.

"The Council is now positioning the region to stimulate a new holiday and retirement property industry over the next decade, which will drive the local economy," he said.

"The Copper Coast Council, the Kernewek Lowender Festival and Kadina Football Club have been prime-movers behind this initiative.

"This is an event which, once established, will not only focus the state's attention on the region but will also return funds raised to the local community.

"We are encouraging locals to invite friends and relatives to stay with them for the Big Gig and support this initiative.

"We are also hopeful that the success of the first Big Gig will mean it can be come an annual October long weekend institution."
