Falls Festival
Goes To Byron!

The Byron Shire Mayor, Simon Richardson, confirmed that a three-day event would take place at the new Splendour site in Yelgun from December 31 through January 3.

The move comes less than a year after Falls promoter Simon Daly announced that Splendour organisers Jessica Ducrou and Paul Piticco had joined the Falls management team. In a statement released at the time, Ducrou and Piticco said "We look forward to working with Simon and his team nurturing and continuing the great Falls tradition."

Mayor Richardson told ABC News Falls would provide some welcome relief for the town of Byron, which is often inundated with party revelers over the New Year's Eve period. "Lorne used to go gangbusters with violence and by bringing this festival which again was a very chilled festival and laid back and giving people something to do it's transformed Lorne," he said.

"So for Byron I think not only is it giving a great opportunity for residents of the area to see some great music but importantly it allows us to manage New Year's Eve so we don't have a repeat of what happened last year."

Splendour In The Grass organisers got the green light to use the new site in the North Byron Parkland in April last year, following seven years of protracted negotiations with local council. The approval is part of a five-year trial process which gives permission for three events to take place on the site - located 25 kilometers north of Byron proper - until 2017. Splendour will be held at Yelgun for the first time this July.

Falls Festival is currently held over New Year's Eve in Lorne, Victoria, and Marion Bay, Tasmania - with both events sharing the one lineup.
