LOLLAPALOOZA 2013
Line-up Announced!

Carrying on the theme of amazing festival line-up announcements this year, such as Fuji Rock and Glastonbury - where "every band in the universe" including the Rolling Stones are playing - the acts for Lollapalooza 2013 have been announced.

Featuring the likes of The Cure, Mumford & Sons, Nine Inch Nails, and The Killers, the eight-stage, three-day event is set to be as big as ever.

This marks the return of Nine Inch Nails after a four-year hiatus, during most of which frontman Trent Reznor spent writing filmscores. The band's "reinvented" line-up includes members of Jane's Addiction, whose lead singer, Perry Farrell, curates the Chicago festival.

Despite over 30 years in the industry, British modern rock legends The Cure are Lollapalooza virgins. Surprised that they have never graced the stages of Grant Park before, Perry Farrell told the BBC, "It's always frustrated me and made me feel incomplete and now I can feel complete and die."

Other bands headed to Chicago in August are Vampire Weekend, The National, Phoenix, and Azealia Banks, who are all set to release new albums in the coming months.

The biggest news for Australian fans though, is that among the internationals are four bands representing Australia, who already making inroads to the American market. Namely, hip-hop sensation 360, Western Australian indie darlings San Cisco, self-proclaimed "seizure music" duo Knife Party, and Adelaide brothers Atlas Genius.

The Lollapalooza addition comes off the back of a string of successes for Fremantle teenagers San Cisco, including becoming the first Australian act to score an international record deal with Mississippi independent label, Fat Possum, in a collaboration with RCA Records last year.

Meanwhile, Knife Party - the spin-off project from Rob Swire and Gareth McGrillen of Pendulum (R.I.P.) - got their first taste of Lollapalooza last year, when they were one of four Aussie acts on the bill, along with The Jezabels, The Temper Trap, and Tame Impala.

Atlas Genius have already won fans in the USA after their debut single, "Trojans", sold over 45,000 copies on iTunes early last year when the band was still unsigned. After touring America, they inked a deal with Warner Bros Records and were one of the standout acts at this year's SXSW.

Last but not least, 360 (aka Matthew Colwell) has been kicking goals overseas as well, currently on tour in the USA after playing at South By Southwest 2013 in March. He was also one of many impressive acts to wow the crowds at this year's Big Day Out shows, which were for the first time presented in collaboration with C3 Presents, the booking agency in charge of Austin City Limits and of course, Lollapalooza.

Though it may be jumping the gun, Australian audiences could hope for a similar chain of events with the 2014 edition of Big Day Out. Most notably, Queens Of The Stone Age are due for an Australian visit, particularly given they've begun hitting the festival circuit in support of their forthcoming star-studded album, Like Clockwork.

Joshua Homme and co. were already locked in to play Lollapalooza Brazil, and given they've already made noises about a world tour, an Australian visit around the summer festival isn't out of the question.
