Not too long ago, we did herald our big announcement for the 2011 return of Homebake Music, Film & Arts Festival with a 'classic' theme devoted to a mega array of fine talent, and now we’re back to add the finishing touches. Adding to this impressive Homebake 2011 line-up of talented local acts (from Australia & NZ) what better way to abide by our ‘unwritten charter' of supporting a wide variety of local talent than to give a bunch of new(ish); some not so new but legendary... & some lesser known (although talented) bands the opportunity to expose their collective musical wares to the masses.
So folks, we want to stick to our words and instead of competing against the plethora of festival announcements flooding this great country of ours, it is with much pleasure that we introduce to you the bands & brand new comedy acts who will join and complete the line up for this year's Homebake celebration of music, comedy film & more..
From the new school ...360’s groundbreaking new album, ‘Falling & Flying’ sounds like no hip-hop release to come before it. The sophomore release from this innovative indie rapper has just made its debut at number 4 on the ARIA albums chart! Subverting the elitist worlds of both indie and hip hop into something bigger and better, 360 manages to make his music both stunningly accessible and strikingly original by relating deeply personal stories with effortless wit and charisma. Currently destroying radio airwaves nationwide with his Josh Pyke-assisted single ‘Throw It Away’ and the new banger ‘Killer’, Falling & Flying' breaks new ground; join 360 at Homebake when he’ll take you into a new hip-hop stratosphere.
To the old school... Ratcat remain permanently placed in the indie hall of fame for having dragged Australian music culture out of a stagnant pub rock 80’s phase and bringing alternate pop/punk guitar rock to the masses during the late 80’s / early 1990’s. Their ‘Tingles’ EP featuring the killer single ‘That Ain’t Bad’ made a steady climb to the top of the National Top Forty in 1990, eventually reaching the coveted number 1 spot after 7 months and thereafter becoming the highest selling EP of that year. In 1991 ‘Blind Love’ their subsequent album made chart history debuting at number one on the ARIA charts whilst it’s lead single ‘Don’t Go Now’ simultaneously reached number one on the ARIA single charts. It’s a very rare occurrence to catch this ground breaking Australian act performing live and we welcome the long awaited return of Ratcat to the HOMEBAKE fold as they celebrate their anniversary!
We reckon these guys could be the RATCAT of now…Gold Coast garage rockers, Bleeding Knees Club have set chins wagging on a global level with their debut single ‘Teenage Girls’, the video for which aired exclusively online at US Rolling Stone. They’ve impressed with their live sets as they’ve trekked across the US and UK playing a myriad of shows and festivals and their hard work has already paid off with the band announcing they’ve signed to US label IAMSOUND Records. Their ‘Virginity’ EP will be released on October 18th and their debut album recorded in the US with Dev Hynes of Lightspeed Champion/Blood Orange fame will follow next year.
And, from via international megastars... Ladies and gentlemen, meet Damndogs... this Melbourne foursome have only just revealed their sound to the world, the band are no strangers to fans and the industry. Front man Chris Cester and bass player Mark Wilson make up the rhythm section for Aussie superstars, JET, while long time friends and collaborators Mitch McIvor and Louis Macklin round out the line up. Having only played a few shows in Australia earlier this year this is a real treat for HOMEBAKE revelers who can expect dark, infectious hooks and sinister rhythms that give even the most jaded rocker reason to dance, Damndogs are not for the passive listener!
Joining the girls…This young Melbourne songstress possesses a stellar voice with the most heavenly melodies. Owl Eyes (Brooke Addamo) was officially introduced to Australian audiences via the chorus of breakout hip-hop star Illy's 'It Can't Wait', she went on to release her own 'Faces' EP in September last year and it's hypnotising single '1+1' quickly grabbed rotation on triple j and community stations countrywide. It’s been a remarkable ride for this young Ballarat five piece since they were unearthed by triple j not long after their inception. Gold Fields created quite a buzz with their first couple of single releases. Their self titled EP is out now with the latest single ‘Moves’ seizing single of the week on iTunes. They’ve already attracted major interest in the UK when they toured with The Naked And Famous. Get ready to groove to Gold Fields when they present their melodic dance pop in the Domain this December.
The last eighteen months have been massive for Melbourne two-piece, Big Scary comprising of the boy strummer Tom Iansek and the girl drummer Jo Syme. Big Scary has been busy collecting fans and widespread industry support with their constantly evolving musical style and energetic live shows. Prolific in their outpouring of music, 2011 has been an even bigger year for the talented duo. Having just released their debut LP ‘Vacation’ to critical acclaim (also Triple J feature album), be sure to check out Big Scary as they make their debut HOMEBAKE performance.
Hailing from way over west Split Seconds started 2011 in a blaze of glory, adding just about every summer festival to their resume (including an appearance at the Perth Big Day Out thanks to triple j Unearthed). They released their debut self titled EP in March, a recording that featured their impressive single ‘Bed Down’ and which saw the band claim 5 WAMI awards. Refusing to rest on their laurels, Split Seconds went straight back to work and issued a brand new single - popular radio staple ‘All You Gotta Do’. Since then they've been quickly earning frequent flyer points, taking in national tours with The Panics, Owl Eyes and Jebediah.
Independent DYI Sydney three-piece RÜFÜS has been making considerable ripples around the world from the peripheries of Sydney’s indie dance music scene since early 2011. They’re currently celebrating the release of their debut self-titled EP from which two tracks, 'Paris Collides' and 'We Left', reached No.8 and No.13 on the Hype Machine charts simultaneously, while also garnering radio play throughout Europe and North America. With skilled pop sensibilities, RÜFÜS’ combination of live instruments and electronic production create moments of dance floor euphoria and roaming lo-fi grooves. The result is subtly and undeniably infectious.

These three beautiful superstar songstresses, Sarah Blasko, Sally Seltmann and Holly Throsby, aka the incredible Seeker Lover Keeper possess a natural connection on both a musical and personal level which has endeared them to fans and media alike. Their collaboration has been a huge success with their self-titled debut album entering the ARIA Album charts at number 3. A national tour followed selling out in record time, their acclaimed album has now achieved well over gold status and they’ve just been nominated for an ARIA Award. Adding sass to the smoky, sultry sounds of a bygone era, Lanie Lane (pronounced “Lannie”) is an undeniable talent who draws on the past and plants it very firmly in the here and now. Imbued with the spirit of Muddy Waters, and channeling the grit of Billie Holiday, Lanie Lane wraps the sounds of a golden age around a voice that is as rich and warm as it is sweet. . She’s toured with US legend Justin Townes Earle, Fitz and the Tantrums, teamed up with Clare Bowditch on record and stage and was personally invited to Nashville to record with Jack White for his. Third Man Records label. Lanie’s highly anticipated debut album ‘To The Horses’ was released last week. Take in Lanie Lane’s timeless sound and irrepressible presence at Homebake.
It was during an intimate show by Angus & Julia Stone that Central Coast NSW singer/songwriter Daniel Lee Kendall had his first epiphany. Emerging from his bedroom not long after with the endearing pop of ‘Lost in the Moment’, things were about to change – big-time. Skip forward 12 months, and his new EP ‘Talk The Night Away’ has proven another winner. Recorded with producer Paul ‘Woody’ Annison (Red Riders), Ryan Caesar (Children Collide) and Scott Owen (The Living End), Daniel Lee Kendall’s winsome tunes have landed him tours with Bonjah, Georgia Fair and Old Man River amongst many others. His songs showcase a diverse, intelligent performer, but the true power of DLK lies within his voice; the quality of which is stirring.

Awarded ‘Sydney’s Best Comedian’ by Time Out in 2011, Wil is a stand up first and foremost, touring Australia and the world at every opportunity, performing more than a hundred shows a year. His stand up is a densely written, high-speed ride though one of the most wonderful comedic imaginations in the country. MICHAEL HING
Michael Hing is an independent comedian working out of Sydney. He co-founded Sydney's best comedy night Project 52 (Time Out Comedy Awards 2011), has received 5-star reviews for his festival shows (Illustrious Physicians of Romance, Sidney Critic) and was nominated as Sydney's best comedian (Time Out Sydney). He has achieved all of this without representation, which is why you will probably never see him on television and why, despite being Chinese, he refuses to be an 'ethnic comedian' on the laughable grounds that he doesn't want to be a racist. You can find him regularly at The Comedy Store, as well as working at his day job.

Nick Cody is quickly becoming one of the funniest young comedians in the country and, at 24 years of age, has already supported some of the biggest names in stand-up. Nick’s brand of stand-up offers a unique combination of edgy, thought-provoking material ranging form brutally honest and uninhibited storytelling to rapid-fire and hilarious social comedy. In addition to two sold-out seasons at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival with full-length solo shows, Nick has recently featured as a guest on Hughesy & Kate (NOVA100) and NOVA’s Summer Lovin’ with Ed Kavalee & Tony Martin.

TOBY COLEMAN
Toby has been working his way through the comedy rooms of Sydney for the last 6 years. He has amused and delighted audiences around the inner city hotels, comedy rooms and several comedy festivals. In 2009, his show at ‘The World’s Funniest Island’ was standing room only and at the ’2010 Sydney Comedy Festival’ his show was voted in the top ten. His material is a mix of high brow and low brow, with some general observations on life, stupidity and the incredible.
RAY BADRAN
In 1985 a hilarious man was born. Ray attended university, completing bachelors of medical science; he completed it in only twice the allocated time. After quitting and getting fired from a number of jobs (9 in total), Ray decided to try his hand at stand up comedy. His hand liked comedy and so did the rest of his body, so he continued to perform it. He has appeared on The Footy Show and contributed comedy writing to various other shows.
SACHA MARX
In the space of 18 months, Sacha Marx has become a regular on the Sydney Comedy scene and has performed with the likes of Tony Woods and Gabriel Iglesias. Marx has a unique stage presence and his clever take on the world has made many take notice. This guy could be anything.
