FAKER - LIVE! Faker are releasing a guidebook. It’s on a topic they know absolutely nothing about. Well, almost nothing. It’s called ‘Love Survival Guide’, and the first instalment of this guidebook is a project called ‘Get Loved’.
'Get Loved' is more than just the name of the new Faker album - their first for three years. A long and difficult journey, the story of 'Get Loved' will be told in parts - singles, remixes, EPs, videos, live shows and an album. It is their most daring and anthemic work - but also their most personal set of songs to date. The first instalment of ‘Get Loved’ is 'How Did We Not Get Loved' - a prequel EP to the full length record released on October 7th.
Deciding to produce their own record for the first time, they enlisted the help of an American engineer, Eric J Dubowski, and the support of friends Paul Mac and Jonny Seymour working as Stereogamous (for extra programming and mentoring), and set sail on the seven seas with songs like 'How To Survive', 'Back When Solvents' and the first single 'Dangerous'.
After finishing the new record and releasing ‘Dangerous’, Nathan and Nic felt a part of the story was missing. So in June, they headed back into the studio (well the studio in their living room) with their new band-mates Liam and Chris and recorded three new songs in the space of a week.
'How Did We Not Get Loved', a prequel EP to the full length record is a five track collection featuring two album tracks and three brand new tracks. It tells a different story: it looks at the darker side of relationships and loves lost.
As described in the opening line of the (sort of) title-track, Love Survival Guide, there is in fact “nothing here about that in this stupid guidebook”. So, in lieu of any kind of plan, Faker really just want to sing you to sleep at night, maybe elate you at a gig and let you know that there are always Hearts To Break, but first...they just want you to get back in there and dance.
'Now we're determined to put Faker back together as a four-piece to tour the record. Making stuff is cool, and doing that together is the bomb. These songs are addictive. Every time you tip the telescope, it's a new ride. We made GET LOVED so you could find your own adventure in it' says Nathan.
'We think GET LOVED is a record which looks up at night in empty cities, sprints through a crowd, which takes pictures of beautiful broken things and which, despite its adult ironies, will carve out a map in your heart. It's been fun. We hope you like it'. |
