Jesus Jones, The Wonder Stuff and The Clouds

Select Touring is proud to announce the return of the three of the biggest bands in indie rock, to Australian shores.

This August, the UKs’ Jesus Jones will take the stage alongside fellow Englishmen, The Wonder Stuff and Australia’s own The Clouds for a very special East Coast Tour.

Jesus Jones gained notable attention in 1989 with the release of their debut album LIQUIDIZER. The band’s unique sound, which blended elements of pop, dance and hip hop, was relatively unheard of at the time and helped them carve a niche and a name for themselves in the indie scene. But it was their second album, 1991’s DOUBT, which saw Jesus Jones leap into the limelight of international commercial success.

Driven by the world-wide hit ‘Right Here, Right Now’, which reached #2 on the US Billboard Hot 100 Charts, the album also spawned ‘International Bright Young Thing’ and ‘Real, Real, Real’, which were hits in their own right. The album itself reached#3 on the US Billboard charts and #1 on the UK album charts.

Before the release of their debut album, ‘The Eight Legged Groove Machine’, The Wonder Stuff had already gained the attention of music press across the UK, due largely to the notoriety of lead singer Miles Hunt. Known for his brashness, Hunt personified The Wonder Stuff: ‘mean, self-satisfied, self-serving, and scathingly witty’ (Allmusic.com). It was a reputation that followed, and perhaps help make the band as they toured extensively throughout Europe and North America, building a strong international fan base to add to their already stronghold on the UK indie music scene.

In 1991, they teamed up with Vic Reeves to release ‘Dizzy’. The song was an unexpected success that became a massive hit around the world, reaching the #1 position in the UK. The Wonder Stuff went on to release another two albums during the nineties, NEVER LOVED ELVIS and CONSTRUCTION FOR THE MODERN IDIOT, to add to their already stellar collection, cementing their legacy as indie rock icons.

The Clouds formed in Sydney in 1989, lead by vocalist/guitarist, Jodi Phillis and vocalist/bassist, Tricia Young, and within a year were signed to Red Eye Records. Between 1990 and 1997, the band released seven singles including ‘Hieronymus’ and ‘Alchemy’s Dead’, five EPs and four albums most notably the classic PENNY CENTURY.

Starting out with a very strong pop element, the band’s sound evolved into something tougher, darker and more experimental. The Clouds never achieved mainstream success in Australia however their records sold consistently with PENNY CENTURY going gold.

They had a large and loyal fan base and toured extensively throughout the US and Europe. Part of the flourishing Australian independent music scene in the early 90’s that included The Falling Joys, The Hummingbirds, Ratcat and The Underground Lovers, The Clouds left an enduring legacy of articulate and gutsy rock and roll.

Don’t miss seeing music history as Jesus Jones, The Wonder Stuff and The Clouds tour the East Coast this August.
