Jarvis Cocker first came to prominence as one of the major movers and shakers of Brit-pop, and during the course of a musicial career that now spans over 3 decades (and counting) he has lost none of his renowned suave, swagger and wit. Most famously ruling Cool Britannia as Pulp’s enigmatic lead singer and songwriter, he has now established himself as a solo artist with the release of two classic albums. Pulp reached the height of notority in the mid-90’s with the release of albums His n Hers, the Mercury Prize winning Different Class, and This Is Hardcore. Highlight singles include Babies, Do You Remember The First Time?, Mis-Shapes/Sorted for E’s & Wizz, Disco 2000, and the anthemic Common People. After Pulp disbanded in 2002 it was a four year wait before Cocker released his solo debut, entitled Jarvis. Welcomed by fans and acclaimed by critics, the album is exquisitely crafted and laced with the characteristic Cocker sophistication and humour. Cocker most recently toured Australia as part of the 2007 V Festival line-up, winning over the crowds his witty, charismastic delivery and high quality musical performances. “Posing, preening and taking the piss from the moment he sets foot on the stage, Cocker grabs you by your corduroy trousers and doesn’t let go…” 3D World Throughout the journey Jarvis Cocker’s creativity and versitility have lead to numerous side projects – writing and performance collaborations, penning soundtrack tunes, directing music videos, curating exhibitions including London’s Meltdown Festival, a stint in the band Relaxed Muscle, as well as a spot of lecturing and select TV appearances. In ’95 Pulp headlined Glastonbury’s Pyramid Stage - this year Jarvis Cocker returned to Glastonbury to headline the John Peel Stage, before undertaking a number of US and European shows that bring him to Australia this summer. | |
