Ever since the Brisbane’s iconic Festival Hall shut it’s doors in August 2003, local music fans have been longing for a suitable replacement! Our fine city has been missing out as both international and national touring acts have had limited performance options when stopping in SE QLD, either playing small theatre shows in Fortitude Valley where punters end up unlucky due to the limited tickets or larger expansive sets in one of the city’s cavernous entertainment and convention centre's. Things are about to change as we announce the launch of the Brisbane Big Top! A mid size venue catering for acts both big and small! Centrally located in the West End precinct of south Brisbane, the Brisbane Big Top will feature a 3000 square metre, all-weather circus style tent being erected amongst the greenery of Musgrave Park – only a few minutes walk from the Brisbane CBD, South Brisbane station, South Bank station, the West End shops/clubs strip and CityCat ferry and bus links. Able to host any capacity from 2000 – 4000+ the Brisbane Big Top will offer that outdoor concert experience with an indoor feel. Whilst negotiations continue with a range of national and international acts, we are pleased to announce that the inaugural weekend season of shows will feature none other than rock favourites THE LIVING END and US hip hop heavyweights DE LA SOUL. 2008 proved to be a huge success for THE LIVING END and now the clock has clicked over to celebrate another year the band continue to maintain their dominance as the rock band of the year as they kicked into a new gear with extraordinary performances on the national Big Day Out tour. THE LIVING END will be joined by special guests Gyroscope and Tame Impala on the The Raise The Alarm tour. All three bands pack a powerful punch in the live arena and with their combined passion; commitment, and sincere dedication, The Raise The Alarm tour will deliver one hell of a rockin’ ride! DE LA SOUL have earned themselves a huge following in Australia and internationally since the release of their ground-breaking debut album ‘3 Feet High and Rising’ in 1989. We last saw the good-time guys in early 2008, but this time they’re splashing out and coming with a 10-piece band, made up of seasoned players from across the USA, handpicked by De La Soul. The Brisbane Big Top show will be part of the trio’s most comprehensive tour of Australia to date – and they promise to “re-create the classics from the ground up, 100% live.” Catch these two iconic acts at the Brisbane Big Top this May Long Weekend and stay tuned for more exciting news about more tantalising acts to come at www.thebigtop.com.au. It's a long weekend with the May Day public Holiday on the Monday so no excuses to miss out! | |
