Little Birdy On tour during March with special guests Sugar Army & Katy Steele solo Rising from the musical hotbed of talent in Perth, Western Australia, Little Birdy came together in 2002 when Katy Steele (sister of the Sleepy Jackson's Luke Steele) left her electro-pop band the Plastik Scene and teamed up with Simon Leach. The two were soon joined by Matt Chequer on drums and Scott 'Barney' O'Donoghue (formerly of Fourth Floor Collapse) on bass, and the rock outfit was born, taking their name from a Ween song. After a demo was leaked to radio, a bidding war broke out between record companies to sign Little Birdy. The group settled on the label Eleven. Two EPs followed - Little Birdy (2003), and This is a Love Song (2004) - before their debut album BigBigLove (2004) was released, eventually earning the band gold record sales. They toured heavily in the next two years, including showcases in London, Los Angeles and New York, a national tour with REM and a permanent spot on the Australian festival circuit. |
