Sydney singer-songwriter LIOR, New Zealand reggae-dub favourites THE BLACK SEEDS, blues and roots sensation ASH GRUNWALD, north coast roots/rock collective BAND OF FREQUENCIES, and DJ sets from DJ BIG BAD (Winnie Coopers) and the SURE CUT KIDS are among the acts already announced.
Throw in headline act, three piece synth-electro outfit the MIDNIGHT JUGGERNAUTS, fresh from conquering the nations stages at the Big Day Out, and the Quiksilver Pro Show is already a must-see musical event.
Now, dropping in as part of the next installment of stellar acts who will be waxing up the boards, is the immeasurably talented URTHBOY.
His latest album The Signal features the infectious hit We Get Around and showcases Urthboy’s awesome MC skills and some quality song writing to boot. A former member of Hermitude and co-front man of one of Australia’s foremost hip-hop crews, The Herd, Urthboy has proved he can do it solo too.
Joining Urthboy on yet another road trip up the coastal highway are rising blues rockers DALLAS FRASCA AND HER GENTLEMAN.
Dubbed the modern day Janis Joplin, Dallas Frasca is an alternate roots powerhouse. Her mighty soul-voice has been resonating and reaching people across Australia through radio, stereo and touring. Raspy bottom end vocals unified with groove-based slide and a thumping stomp box mixed with an undeniable stage presence make Dallas Frasca and her Gentleman a live act not to be missed!
Organisers of The Quiksilver Pro Show are also excited to continue their relationship with the Gold Coast City Council’s Cultural Development Unit to add three local acts to the bill, as part of the A-Venue youth music initiative.
These acts include high energy reggae rascals COOL CALM COLLECTIVE, the distinctive hip hop of TRACE ELEMENTS and the laid back roots of THE APPLE TREE.
Now in its second year, the Quiksilver Pro Show is paddling into a musical feast of roots, rock, electro and hip hop - right on the sand at Duranbah Beach, one of the Australia's most consistent surf breaks.
The Quiksilver Pro Show runs from 2pm - 10pm ADST (1pm-9pm Qld time) on Saturday 1st March 2008, and will also host appearances by several Top 45 surfers from the Quiksilver Pro presented by LG, broadcast surf films on the LG big screen, food stalls, markets and a fully licensed bar.
