Just confirmed include Australian rock icons HOODOO GURUS, JEFF MARTIN ( former frontman for Canadian rock outfit the Tea Party), New Zealand's powerhouse 4-piece SHIHAD and direct from New Orleans, blues-funk legend, JON CLEARY AND THE ABSOLUTE MONSTER GENTLEMEN.
Like wow. For two and a half decades the HOODOO GURUS have consistently been one of the most inventive, lyrically smart and goddamn exciting rock’n’roll bands Australia has ever produced. Oh yeah, and they’ve done it with style, panache and a wicked sense of humour. Along the way they’ve influenced an entire generation of bands which kinda explains why the likes of You Am I, The Living End, Dallas Crane, Grinspoon and many others queued up a few years back to pay tribute to the band’s 1984 debut album, Stoneage Romeos.
As songwriter, singer, producer and guitarist with the Tea Party, JEFF MARTIN has sought to buck the trend of dumbing down the music for quick commercial gratification. Instead, he continues to follow his inner voice, which speaks to him of the importance of melody, dynamics, musicianship and the manipulation of light and shade. Martin's music has endeared itself to a rabid fan base on the strength of its rich palette of color and sheer adventurous scope. Add to this, the marathon live shows captained by Jeff's elegant and powerful voice, as the front man of The Tea Party. Jeff will be performing a set of Tea Party classics and rarities as well as covering his solo offerings with Wayne Sheehy (with whom he recorded his Live in Dublin CD) on percussion.
Adding to the latest line up anouncement for the new band room at the venue is live favourite SHIHAD. Kiwi expats Shihad are releasing a brand new album in April 2008, their 7th, it will be titled Beautiful Machine. To showcase their new material, the boys are taking their live show , Horsell Common and Galvatrons on the road for six loud, hot, sweaty weeks in early 2008, which will see them fire up the crowd on the Gold Coast on Saturday 15th March.
The Crescent City. The Big Easy. New Orleans. It is the home of rhythm and blues and also the base for one of the funkiest keyboard players around, Mr. JON CLEARY. Singer-pianist Jon Cleary is English by birth but Dixie by nature, with a low, steamy croon and a pumping-ivory drive as funky as the city he has long called home: New Orleans. Cleary can be an absolute monster on his own. As well as being Bonnie Raitt's keys man, Jon is the epitome of New Orleans funk and soul and he brings his band Jon Cleary and The Absolute Monster Gentlemen to the Coolangatta Hotel on Thursday 20th March for his first ever Gold Coast appearance.
Tickets to these shows won't last long, so be quick!
